We all struggle with moments of stress, tragedy and disappointment in our lives.
I have found that when we acknowledge the growth we experience due to a challenge in our lives and make a contribution to our community we can harness optimism and positive thinking for the future.
I promised to share my personal growth from the recent tragedy in Israel #bringbackourboys.
I am a proud Olah to this country and as an Olah I have a funny mishmash of American and Israeli thinking. I have liberal and conservative sides and a lot of confusion as to what the world my kids grow up in will look like in the future. (I know I am not alone in feeling this way)
This tragedy was so personal, so much more devastating to my personal feelings of security, of faith, of hope than any other tragedy in my lifetime. As we all have witnessed, this tragedy has been the impetus of a huge outpouring of brotherly love, faith, national pride and Jewish unity not seen in our nation since the founding of the state.
For me this experience solidified that every tragedy, every challenge has a purpose. That we can reach a place of national harmony and that I want to be a part of that.
My personal goal is to start a community garden project with our school and partner with a school in the United States to continue this feeling of harmony, unity and connection to the Jewish Homeland.
The stories have been pouring in of your contributions to the families of the boys and in your communities. Share something positive in the comments below. When unrest continues to surround us, the best thing we can do to feel safe is reach out and give love to each other.
