Bulgur and Black Lentil Majadra
I created this recipe for a bulgur majadra for a friend whose kids disliked brown rice. This recipe has since become a family favorite in my house as well!
Ingredients
1 Cup Bulgur large grout
2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
1 Onion Chopped
1/2 Cup Black Lentils
1 Teaspoon Cumin
1 Teaspoon Turmeric
1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg
1 Teaspoon salt
Soaked golden raisins, optional
Directions
1. Place the bulgur in a bowl and cover with boiling water for 30 minutes.
2. Sauté the onion in the olive oil until soft and a bit caramelized.
3. Add the lentils and spices to the onions. Cover with boiling water and cook covered on a low flame for 15 minutes. Check the lentils for softness, if not ready leave them for 5 more minutes.
4. Add the Bulgur and cook for 5 more minutes stirring and blending the flavors. Check the lentils to make sure they are soft but retain their shape.
Add in the optional golden raisins here.
