Trusting Yourself, Trusting God: A Holistic Path to Health and Wholeness

This week’s Bitachon class reminded me—and all of us—that trusting in God isn’t just a spiritual exercise. It’s the foundation for physical vitality, emotional resilience, and the courage to nourish ourselves well.


We spoke about recognizing that God is the ultimate authority on life, sustenance, and healing. And when we internalize that truth, we stop outsourcing our worth or our well-being to external standards. We stop judging our bodies or our food choices with shame. We learn to trust our bodies' wisdom and our Creator's compassion.

But here’s the thing: it’s not only about faith. It’s about what faith does to our biology.

  • 🌱 When we trust ourselves, we reduce cortisol, the stress hormone that triggers cravings and inflammation.

  • 🌱 When we trust God, we calm our nervous system, which helps regulate our digestion, immunity, and hormones.

  • 🌱 When we judge ourselves favorably, we reduce the cycle of emotional eating and anxiety-driven restriction.

    • This week, I want to remind you that your food choices are not separate from your spiritual life. They are an expression of it.


That’s why I teach the Harmony Plate:

  1. 🥤 Start with water or tea—clear your mind and body.

  2. 🥗 Fill half your plate with vegetables and 100 calories of a healthy fat—like tahini, olives, or avocado.

  3. 🍗 Add a quarter plate of protein—aim for 20 grams or more to stabilize your blood sugar.

  4. 🍚 Round it out with a quarter plate of whole grains or fruit—your sustainable energy.

Every time you do this, you are showing Bitachon. You’re choosing nourishment, not punishment. You’re aligning your plate with peace—not perfection.


And yes, emotional eating is real. But maybe it’s not a personal failure. Maybe it’s just unprocessed feelings asking for kindness. Maybe it’s not about food at all—but a failure to give space to what’s really going on inside.
